Wind Ensemble Stops in Morrison, Illinois! - Andy Heckroth

The Wartburg College Wind Ensemble packed up all their bags and "checked-in" to the FAC with their passports, all checked bags, carry-on bags, and, of course, all instruments and music. :) Before the Wind Ensemble boarded the bus, the band received a blessing from Pastor Brian Beckstrom. After loading the bus, the WE was on their way to Morrison, IL.

The Wind Ensemble successfully reached Morrison in the afternoon. Each member unloaded all luggage, instruments, music into the MHS Band room. After all equipment was moved into the high school, the WE had a rehearsal to prepare for their upcoming concert. When the rehearsal was completed, we had a great pot-luck set up for us. Thank you to the families from Morrison who prepared the meals. The Wind Ensemble was very thankful for the meal.

I really enjoyed playing in tonight's concert. To start off the concert, the Morrison High School band put on a wonderful performance. The MHS band played some interesting music, such has Kingdom Hearts, showcased their senior flutist, and played music from Brian Balmages. After their concert, the Wind Ensemble took the stage.

Playing in tonight's concert was a great way to start our pre-tour. It is not very often that a band receives more than one standing ovation, as this happened during our performance. Easily the best moment of the concert was Morrison High School band director David Bean directing the Wind Ensemble's performance of The Stars and Stripes. In addition, the crowd was clapping along towards the end of the song, making the performance even better.

It was a phenomenal day in Morrison for the Wind Ensemble!! Tomorrow, the WE will head to Clarence, IA, to reunite with Wartburg College alumnus Trina McPeake!!
